An approach to identify the optimal cloud in cloud federation

Abstract: Enterprises are migrating towards cloud computing for their ability to provide agility, robustness and feasibility in operations. To increase the reliability and availability of services, clouds have grown into federated clouds i.e., union of clouds. There are still major issues in federated clouds, which when solved could lead to increased satisfaction to both service providers and clients alike. One such issue is to select the optimal foreign cloud amongst the federation, which provides services according to the client requirements. In this paper, we propose a model to select the optimal cloud service provider based on the capability and performance of the available clouds in the federation. We use two matrix models to obtain the capability and performance parametric values. They are matched with the client requirements and the optimal foreign cloud service provider is selected.
Structural and Magnetic Properties of Cr-Co Nanoferrite Particles  [PDF]

Abstract: Nano-crystalline CrxCoFe2xO4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) ferrites were synthesized by sol-gel method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of all the samples provide information about the existence of single phase spinel structure. The SEM and TEM micrographs show the uniform particle distribution and SAED pattern represents the polycrystalline nature of the resultant ferrite nano-particles. High purity of the sample is confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The FTIR spectra show two strong absorption bands in the range of 600 - 400 cm1, which confirm the presence of M-O stretching band in ferrites. The magnetic properties of the synthesized samples were investigated by using vibrating sample magnetometer at room temperature. According to VSM reports the main magnetic parameters like saturation magnetization (Ms), coercivity (Hc) were found to decrease with the substitution of Cr3+ content. Possible mechanisms which are responsible for the results are scrutinized minutely in this paper.
Study of the Dielectric Behaviour of Cr-Doped Zinc Nano Ferrites Synthesized by Sol-Gel Method  [PDF]

Abstract: The series of Cr-Zn nano ferrites having the general composition CrxZnFe2-xO4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) have been synthesized successfully in the nanocrystalline form using the sol-gel method. The samples were sintered at 900°C for 3 hours. The effect of chromium substitution on dielectric properties of Zn-ferrites is reported in this paper. The analysis of XRD patterns revealed the formation of single phase cubic spinel structure for all the Cr-Zn ferrite samples. The FTIR spectra show two strong absorption bands in the range of 400 - 600 cm-1, which corroborate the spinel structure of the samples. The average grain size was found to be in the nanometer range and of the order of 43 - 63 nm obtained using TEM images. The lattice parameter and crystallite size decrease with increase in Cr concentration (x). The investigation on dielectric constant (ε'), dissipation factor (D) and ac conductivity (σac) was carried out at a fixed frequency 1 kHz and in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz at room temperature using LCR meter. The plots of dielectric constant (ε') versus frequency show the normal dielectric behavior of spinel ferrites. The value of ac conductivity (σac) increases with increase in frequency for all the compositions. The appearance of the peak for each composition in the dissipation factor versus frequency curve suggests the presence of relaxing dipoles in the Cr-Zn nano ferrite samples. It is also found that the shifting of the relaxation peak towards lower frequency side with an increase in chromium content (x) is due to the strengthening of dipole-dipole interactions. The composition and frequency dependence of the dielectric constant, dielectric loss and ac-conductivity are explained based on the Koop’s two-layer model, Maxwell-Wagner polarization process, and Debye relaxation theory.

Abstract:

With the size of astronomical data archives continuing to increase at an enormous rate, the providers and end users of astronomical data sets will benefit from effective data compression techniques. This paper explores different lossless data compression techniques and aims to find an optimal compression algorithm to compress astronomical data obtained by the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), which are new and unique in the field of radio astronomy. It was required that the compressed data sets should be lossless and that they should be compressed while the data are being read. The project was carried out in conjunction with the SKA South Africa office. Data compression reduces the time taken and the bandwidth used when transferring files, and it can also reduce the costs involved with data storage. The SKA uses the Hierarchical Data Format (HDF5) to store the data collected from the radio telescopes, with the data used in this study ranging from 29 MB to 9 GB in size. The compression techniques investigated in this study include SZIP, GZIP, the LZF filter, LZ4 and the Fully Adaptive Prediction Error Coder (FAPEC). The algorithms and methods used to perform the compression tests are discussed and the results from the three phases of testing are presented, followed by a brief discussion on those results.

Abstract: DNA, the essential part of the life is making way in to new vaccine technology. Plasmid vectors from the bacteria have revolutionized the world of vaccine design by its new technology DNA vaccines. Small portion of the nucleotides from the pathogen held under the control of promoter in a plasmid vector can be used as a vaccine. DNA vaccines alleviate the odds of the other vaccines by having good hold on both the faces of the immunity. The key to the success of DNA vaccine lies in the route of administration of the vaccine which can be done in many ways. Prime boost strategy is an approach used to boost the action of DNA vaccine. Serum Adiponectin is Associated with Adverse Outcomes of Asthma in Men but Not in Women

Abstract: Background: Murine studies suggest a beneficial effect of systemic adiponectin on asthma. Our objective was to determine the association between serum adiponectin concentrations and asthma control/severity outcomes in men and women separately. Methods: Cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of data from years 10, 15, and 20 examinations of the prospective coronary artery risk development in young adults study in the United States were performed. Asthma was defined by self-reported provider diagnosis at or prior to year 15 examination. Outcomes included presence of active disease, number of respiratory symptoms, and number of asthma medications; as well as longitudinal decline in absolute FEV1. Year 15 serum adiponectin concentration was the predictor variable. Results: In a multivariable analysis of 411 eligible subjects, after adjusting for body mass index and covariates, higher serum adiponectin concentrations were associated with more frequent active disease (including more frequent use of any asthma medication), and greater number of respiratory symptoms and asthma medications among men but not among women with asthma (p for interactions between sex and adiponectin for all analyses < 0.05). Conclusions: Higher serum adiponectin concentrations may be independently associated with adverse clinical outcomes of asthma in men but not in women. If biological effect is confirmed in future studies, modification of systemic adiponectin concentrations may open up newer ways to treat asthma in men.
Noise reduction methods in analysis of near infrared lunar occultation light curves for high angular resolution measurements

Abstract: Lunar occultation (LO) technique in the near-infrared provides angular resolution down to milliarcseconds on the occulted source even with ground-based 1m class telescopes. LO observations are limited to brighter objects because they require high signal to noise ratio (S/N ~ 40) for proper extraction of angular diameter values. Hence, methods to improve the S/N ratio by reducing noise using Fourier and Wavelet transforms have been explored in this study. A sample of 54 near-infrared LO light curves observed with IR Camera at Mt Abu observatory has been used. It is seen that both Fourier and Wavelet methods have shown improvement in S/N, compared to the original data. However, the application of wavelet transforms results in slight smoothening of the fringes resulting in a higher angular diameter value. Fourier transforms which reduce discrete noise frequencies do not distort the fringe. Fourier transform method seems to be effective in S/N improvement, as well as improved model fit particularly in the fainter regime of our sample. They also provide a better model fit for brighter sources in some cases though there may not be significant S/N improvement.

Abstract: Chorea secondary to cavernous malformation (CM) is uncommon and deficits can vary depending on the degree of involvement of surrounding structures. Unlike other vascular malformations, CM is not encapsulated. Therefore, hemorrhages from a CM can extend to involve adjacent brain structures. We present here a rare case of acute hemichorea with conduction aphasia due to hemorrhagic conversion of a CM, its diagnostic work up, and successful therapy. We demonstrate lesion-behavior mapping, combining both structural and functional data to elucidate the pathophysiology of this presentation.
